About MI-VR
At MI-VR, we believe that each of us has a responsibility to be stewards of what we learn in life. Learning never ceases. We want to move beyond intentions and have individuals understand their impact in the world. MI (pronounced ‘ME’) stands for Mālama ʻIke and translates from Hawaiian as ‘Steward of Knowledge.’
MI-VR is a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) innovative tech company that seeks to partner with DEI consultants, facilitators, company, and community leaders to complement their training and curriculum. Our products and services provide unique immersive Virtual Reality (VR) DEI experiences that aim to increase personal and situational awareness and emotional empathy, allowing access to a possibility of different thinking that drives people toward responsible action.
An adaptation of the Hawaiian symbol for lō kahi, meaning ‘unity, agreement’ is seen in our logo which is defined by another Hawaiian word, kuleana, and translates as a ‘two-way responsibility’. Our goal is that individuals will be responsible in stewarding the knowledge they have experienced with MI-VR.
About the
founder
Jen Yoshimura was born and raised in Hawai'i and is now based in the Pacific Northwest. Being a queer woman of Native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, and German descent has provided her with a unique perspective into the needs of diverse communities.
After nearly 20 years as a leader in the engineering industry where she was one of the few women of color in her field, Yoshimura merged her technology skills with her passion for inclusion and representation and created MI-VR.
With this innovative new approach to DEI education, her aim is to explore and dismantle the biases and systems holding back companies that are challenged with recruiting, retraining, developing, promoting, mentoring, and supporting an increasingly diverse workforce.
She is excited to partner with other leaders and explore ways to create transformational changes for current and future generations across all industries.
